GET OUT THERE
You really miss out when you’re shut in. At the right retirement community, getting out and about is easy and fun.

“So I love those little outings. They break up the week especially if you don’t have visitors coming or whatever. And the entertainment here is great.” – Elaine O’Brien, resident of Woodbury Mews

MEET ELAINE O’BRIEN, ONE OF THE MANY FRIENDLY FACES AT WOODBURY MEWS.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Elaine O’Brien on Monday, August 8th, 2016. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Elaine grew up in Camden, NJ, where she attended Catholic school. She married and raised her family in Haddon Township. After her husband passed away, she retired and found herself alone in a big house and unable to drive due to glaucoma. At first it was okay because she could walk everywhere, but when nerve pain temporarily kept her from walking, her kids convinced her to consider her options. Now in her second year at Woodbury Mews, Elaine’s life has improved 100%. She loves her large one-bedroom apartment even though she spends more time outside it. A member of Woodbury Mews’ welcome wagon group, Elaine sees to it that every new neighbor feels at home.

ENJOY THE RIDE
The world is turning. Why not enjoy the ride? How fun is your life where you’re living now? Are you faced with so many choices you have to pick and choose? If so, great. If not, perhaps it’s time to consider your options. There’s no age limit to enjoying a visit to the aquarium, lunch with friends, a boat ride on the Maurice River or a trip to the casino. Residents like Elaine O’Brien are grateful to be having this much fun and so much more. “Oh my life is improved 100%. It really has. I wasn’t seeing anyone from dawn till dusk. If people didn’t come over and visit me, I was just out of luck. I’d watch TV and play games on the computer you know, that was about it.” – Elaine O’Brien

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED…
Elaine was not at all impressed when she first started exploring retirement living options but she didn’t give up. After visiting two communities in Gloucester City, her perseverance paid off. “They had cooking in their apartments and all you could do was smell the food as you walked through the hall. And I certainly didn’t like that at all. And they just weren’t neat and clean and so when my daughter brought me to the Woodbury Mews, as soon as I walked in the door I loved it because the décor was beautiful, the people were so friendly.” – Elaine O’Brien

KEEP KNOCKING
Elaine found if you knock on enough doors, the right one will open. Her discovery changed her life. Now instead of living alone, she enjoys delicious dining, adventurous outings, playing cards and discussing Sunday films with friends. “And then I looked at apartments and I found this one-bedroom apartment which I really like. It’s very spacious. I have everything that I need here and so I moved in. My children are happy, my grandkids are happy, they come and visit me here. And even my grandkids stayed overnight one night and I just really enjoy it.” – Elaine O’Brien
